Statutory retirement age to stay at 67 in 2027

The Minister recently announced that the statutory retirement age will stay at 67 in 2027. At the end of each year, the government reviews the life expectancy of 65 year olds. If life expectancy is increasing, the age at which someone will start to receive AOW benefit (Dutch state pension) will increase too.

Today’s 65 year olds are expected to live another 21 years on average
The expectation is that today's 65 year olds will live to the age of 86 on average. With this in mind, the statutory retirement age in 2027 will be the same as in 2026, that is to say 67.

When is the statutory retirement age announced?
The statutory retirement age is announced 5 years in advance. The following statutory retirement ages are already known:

  • The statutory retirement age in 2021 is 66 years and 4 months.
  • The statutory retirement age in 2022 will be 66 years and 7 months.
  • The statutory retirement age in 2023 will be 66 years and 10 months.
  • The statutory retirement age from 2024 to 2027 will be 67.

You can enter your date of birth on SVB.nl (Social Insurance Bank) to see the date on which you will start to receive AOW benefit (Dutch State pension). The statutory retirement age applicable in 2027 will be added to the website in January 2022.

Were you born after 31 December 1960?
Your statutory retirement age is not announced yet if you were born after 31 December 1960. The agreement is that the statutory retirement age will be announced five years in advance. See SVB.nl for more information.

The standard retirement age for anyone who is a participant in the J&J Pension Fund is 68
